MPA STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS
Texas State University’s Master in Public Administration (MPA) Program has announced the recipients for named scholarships to be awarded for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Semesters.
The scholarships and the recipients are listed below.
The William P. Hobby Family Scholarships (Named for former Texas Lt. Governor William P. Hobby) are: Romy Adame, Denise Dusak, Rose Lindsey, Jessica Gallegos and Wei Cui.
The George Weinberger MPA Scholarship (Named for retired Political Science Department Professor, George Weinberger). The recipient of the Weinberger Scholarship is James Helfrich.
The Frank Rich MPA Scholarship (Named for former Chair of the Texas State University Department of Political Science). The recipient of the Rich Scholarship is Jasmine Pickett.
The Howard Balanoff MPA Scholarship (Named for current MPA Professor Howard Balanoff). The recipient of the Balanoff Scholarship is Jamar Keaton.

Romy Wilson Adame
Romy is a graduate of Texas State with bachelors in public administration. She is originally from Houston, and a 6th generation Texan. She has been working for Texas State for 2 years in the College of Education, Office of Educator Preparation, where she handles the coordination of placing Student Teachers in the classroom setting which is one of the largest programs in the state and she find placements for around 500 student teachers a semester. Her goal is to continue into a Ph.D. Program in Public Policy. Romy’s interests include food policy, national service, higher education, and immigration.
Denise is originally from Kansas City, Missouri but moved to Austin in 1974. She is married and has five grown children. Denise is currently employed as a Federal Funding Specialist at Education Service Center (ESC), Region 20, located in San Antonio. ESCs serve in a non-regulatory role to support and assist school districts and charter schools in improving student performance and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of school operations. Previous to her employment at ESC-20, she was employed at Texas Education Agency as a Program Specialist and Team Lead in the Division of IDEA Coordination (Special Education). Denise is pursuing a Masters in Public Administration degree, with a minor in International Relations. She obtained a Bachelor in Public Administration, with a minor in Political Science, at Texas State University in 2010.
Rose is originally from Kansas City, MO and moved to Texas in 2009 for a job opportunity for her husband, Mike. She graduated from Park University with a degree in International Business. and currently lives in Round Rock with her two dogs, Eos (a lab-corgi mix) and Sierra (a mini-dachshund mix). She is currently working for the Texas Municipal League in Affiliate Services and as a bartender at the Home Field Grill. She plans on writing her ARP on disability policy because her sister has special needs. After graduate school, she would like to continue working for a non-profit, nongovernmental organization, or possibly go into city management.
Wei’s major is public administration with a focus on international relations. She plans to graduate in 2013. She comes to the MPA Program from Beijing, China and has her BA degree from Beijing University of Foreign Studies, majoring in English. Upon graduation, she is hoping to have a chance to work in international affairs arena, in the public or not for profit sectors.
Jamar Keaton graduated from KiIleen High School in 2002 and began his studies at Texas State in 2004. The proud son of a 25-year military combat veteran and loving mother who combined have more than 35 years in local school district experience, he has always been passionate about education and the opportunity to explore new cultures. Inspired by his childhood travels he earned a B.A.I.S. in International Studies and a B.A. in Mass Communications from Texas State University in 2008.
